IT as the Core of Innovation in Global Logistics Management
As early as 1989, Shuttle recognized the importance of IT infrastructure and corporate e-business. It invested in its R&D team and procured the best available hardware and software. It developed systems, which evolved from information automation to e-business, and continued to the currently successful implementation of M-business.
Shuttle's ERP system created a win-win relationship with its customers and its IT applications have won worldwide recognition.
Some key IT accomplishments include:
Development of Shuttle ERP
Shuttle ERP integrates systems such as air cargo business ordering, custom clearance, transportation and ledger system into one enterprise resource planning system. Shuttle in 1995 was the first company in Taiwan to establish Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Internet connectivity with its customers. By 2002, the Shuttle ERP system had grown to include more than 100 companies. Its Two-Way EDI Change and Hand-shaking Functions effectively shorten the logistics operations while significantly improving the accuracy of transferred data.
Real time and transparent WWW Cargo Tracking System
Information flow is the corner stone of a successful Global Logistics Management (GLM) system. A customer that can accurately obtain and use all current logistics information will be the winner in the competitive global market.
The WWW Cargo Tracking System (CTS), is an Internet based, secured access authorization system, which enables customers, at any time, to obtain in real time the shipping status of their cargos. This permits the updating of tactical and strategic production planning and distribution.
Implement its Open Platform Technology, Build Global Logistics Service Portal
(Logistics Service Portal)
In response to the globalization of world economics and to improve Taiwan's integrated logistics management system, Shuttle implemented the Open Platform technology and built the first on-line negotiation system in the logistics industry - all logistics systems and strategic partnerships can simultaneously obtain data from the platform at real time to complete their tasks. This platform was chosen by the Business Bureau of Ministry of Economics as the model solution that demonstrates "Application of Integrated Technologies in Logistics Management and Process".
Developed the only Global Positioning System in m-business (m-Tracker) in Taiwan's logistics industry
Shuttle views its trucks as "Mobile Offices". In order to stay connected with these vehicles, the company developed 'm-Tracker' a multi-functional system for data communications. This is the only system, in the logistics industry which uses GPS and integrates the three major subsystems Cargo Tracker, PDA and Mobile Phone to record and report shipment status in terms of time, speed and locations of the vehicles. In 2002, m-Tracker received the "Best Enterprise Application and Service Award" from the GSM Association of Cannes, France and Shuttle in Taiwan was chosen as the official demo site of this award - This was a significant milestone for Shuttle to a achieve.
